All natural toiletries for kids

Why Natural?

By the time you bathe your kids, wash and condition their hair, brush their teeth, rub in moisturiser on their skin, you have exposed your child to thousands of synthetic ingredients that could be causing them harm.  Synthetic ingredients should play no part in your child's bathing routine.  You may not notice any adverse reactions immediately, but who knows what the long term effects of slow, accumulative exposure can do?

Your children's bodies, brain, hormones, immune system and eyes are still developing, don't bombard them with unecessary chemicals.  Children's skin is much thinner than an adults, which eases the passage of chemicals through their skin into their bloodstream. Some synthetic ingredients like the Paraben based preservatives disrupt their hormones, mimicking oestrogen.

Why use dangerous ingredients (many that are banned in other countries) on your kids?  There is no need to take the risk!

Did you know that in the USA, Bubble Bath and foaming products are required to have a warning label on them saying that it is not recommended to be used everyday. This is because of the high incidence of urinary tract infections and skin irritation resulting from excessive or prolonged use of many bubble bath ingredients!

Below are some common ingredients found in most toiletries made for babies and kids, investigate if you are exposing your kids to these dangerous ingredients.

Colours

Synthetic colours are made from coal tar.  They contain heavy metal salts that leave toxins on the skin which can cause irritation and sensitivity.  Animal studies have shown almost all of them to be deemed carcinogenic.

Propylene Glycol

Propylene Glycol is derived from petroleum and is known for it's skin irritancy.

Paraffin Oil/ Wax, Mineral Oil, Liquid Paraffin/ Petroleum Jelly

Paraffin oil is a petroleum by-product it's occlusive and coats the skin like a piece of plastic, clogging the pores.  It slows down the skins cell development and inhibits the skin from releasing toxins.

Petroleum Jelly (Vaseline) has been banned in the European Union for use in cosmetics since 2005.

Isopropyl Alcohol

A very drying, irritating and dehydrating solvent.  It strips the skin of it's natural, protective layer of oil, which eases the penetration of germs and bacteria into the body.

Quaternium - 15

Quaternium - 15 is a skin and eye irritant.  It's used as a  preservative and is a known cause of dermatitis, it's also poisonous by ingestion.

Sorbolene

Sorbolene almost always contains mineral oil and petroleum jelly which are both carcinogenic and are by- products of petrol.

Sulphates/SLS

Used in car washes, garage floor cleaners, bench top cleaner and in 90% of products that foam. Animals exposed to SLS experienced eye damage. Your child's eyes may not develop properly when exposed to SLS because it dissolves the eyes protein.  Sulphates have a very high irritancy rate.

Toxic Preservatives

Toxic preservatives are extremely irritating to skin and bad for your health.  Paraben based preservatives ie - methyl, ethyl, propyl & butyl.  Paraben preservatives are widely used and highly toxic.  Currently banned in Sweden and Japan!

Synthetic Fragrances

When a product labels fragrance, that can mean up to 4,000 different ingredients to make just one scent! Many toxic and carcinogenic. Reaction to synthetic fragrance ranges from dizziness, headaches and rashes.
